Mango Seedling

This is an Ataulfo Mango seedling. These are my favorite mangos, they are small, yellow and creamy, without fiber, like the standard Tommy Atkins (which is major barf in my opinion).

I cut the seed apart after eating the mango and removed the kernel. Inserted it into some seed starting mix, placed plastic wrap over it, and set it under lights. In a few weeks, it emerged. I've never sprouted a tree before, it's so exciting. I've read that mangos have very long tap roots, and will eventually die if the root is not given enough room to grow. I've tipped the seedling upside down just to see the root, and it is pretty large. In a few days, I'll plant this little thing in a big pot and see what happens.

Cucumbers have flowers

So, the cucumbers that were planted way too early and are now growing beyond my capacity to contain, have developed flowers. I don't know if they are doing this because of stress, or because they're ready to make baby cucumbers. I don't know if I should pull the flowers off, or leave them. Will have to consult the forums.

Seedling Update

Are they still called seedlings when they're this big?

This is the second time they've been outside most of the day, and they seem to like it.

These are the poor cucumbers that were planted way too early and allowed to get rootbound. They have been recovering from the yellowing leaves, and the new, fresh leaves look much better. After a bit of time in the shade, I put them right in the direct sunlight and wind, and they did just fine.

Yellow and red chard, getting bigger, so far so good.

These are the remaining cucumbers freshly transplanted into 4" pots. They have all yellowed while suffering under my care, but I think they will survive and grow out of it. The brand new leaves look normal so far.

Turnips, doing ok, getting bigger. 

Carrot transplants. These were suffering in the cramped little compartment so I transplanted them, and they seem to be ok, growing new leaves, standing up. They even like it outside.  Still have so many carrots to transplant, not fun.

Kale!

Spinach seedlings. After my first batch bolted while still under lights, I'm only giving these 9 hours of light a day, lets see if it works. Spinach is day length sensitive I have learned.  

Some of the tomatoes, the largest. They were suffering under my bad care as well, but have bounced back just fine. They've dealt with the wind and sun just great, knock on wood.

Petunias are still tiny, but they love the sun apparently, I leave them in direct sun for hours and they grow instead of dying!
